REACH Statement

REACH Statement

Implemented by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), manufacturers and importers are obliged to submit a registration for each substance manufactured or imported in quantities of 1 tonne or above per year. The aim of this process is to improve protection of human health and the environment from the risks of chemicals.

Regulation is through a registration process which requires industry itself to ensure that the chemicals it manufactures and puts on the market in the EU do not contravene the aims.

Mayerton are aware of the REACH regulation and understand the arising responsibilities. To comply with the legal obligations of the regulation Mayerton have formulated an action plan to enable a prompt and accurate registration process. To assist in the legal regulatory complexities Mayerton are working in partnership with a consultancy specialising in chemical hazard legislation and software.

Mayerton Refractories Limited is based in the Isle of Man and is therefore classed as outside the Community. Under Article 8 of REACH Mayerton have chosen, by mutual agreement, to appoint Mayerton Refractories (Europe) Limited as an Only Representative. As an only representative Mayerton Refractories (Europe) Limited will fulfil all REACH obligations.

The majority of Mayerton’s supply, into Europe, consists of products such as Magnesia Carbon and Alumina Magnesia Carbon bricks. The substances used to manufacture these shaped articles are not intended to be released under normal working conditions and do not contain substances that are to be included in ANNEX XIV of REACH (EC 1907/2006).  Therefore, these products are not subject to the registration requirements of the legislation.

In addition to the core business, as described above, Mayerton import a monolithic refractory product into Europe. Monolithic refractory products are classified as preparations and the substances contained, therefore, are subject to registration. A sintered clinker raw material is used to create the monolithic product supplied. As the main component of the clinker is present in a concentration of >80% it can be classed as a ‘mono-constituent’ substance, as defined by the Technical Guidance Document for REACH implementation project 3.10. As a substance imported into the Community, in a preparation, a pre-registration and registration is required by the stated deadlines. Mayerton Refractories (Europe) Limited have every intention of fulfilling this requirement.
